39. Hanseatic Days
28 June to 19 July, 2012
The motto for this year‘s Hanseatic Days of the Modern Age is „Verbindungen leben, Netzwerk Hanse“ (approx.: „Keeping connections alive – Hansa as a Network“). On the occasion of this special event, the region is expecting delegations from numerous European Hanseatic cities as well as visitors from all over the world. 10th Lüneburg Sülfmeistertage (Master Salters days)

In October Lüneburg‘s history comes alive in a large-scale spectacle revolving around salt: including competitions, a procession in historical costume and decorated floats as well as the ceremonial burning of a huge barrel, the so-called Kopefass.
Lüneburg Christmas market
28 November to 30 December, 2012
One of northern Germany‘s finest Christmas markets takes place at Lüneburg‘s market square. On 1 and 2 Dec, 2012 visitors to this historical market will also be transported back in time to the Renaissance around the church of St. Michaelis.
